The Spitfire first flew in the early months
of 1936 and so is celebrating its 70th anniversary this
year. This legendary aircrafts role in World War II
had a major influence on our history and it is only fitting
that it should be immortalised in works of art such as this.
Peter has captured the scene of a Mark I Spitfire flying
over London in the dawn light. It is part of the 609 squadron
returning home after another mission protecting the capital
during the Blitz. Peter even paints the inside of each vase,
which, given the size and shape, is nothing short of miraculous.
The skill and patience involved in this work has to be seen
to be believed!
Peter Graves is an exceptionally accomplished
artist who has produced many special commissions including
those for the Royal family. Given the intricacy of the work
involved Peter will produce just 20 of these vases. Goviers
intends to launch a companion Lancaster Vase in the Autumn
and collectors purchasing the Spirtfire Vase will receive
first option of the new edition.
